Arrival of imaginative play

January 31st, 2018

Recently, Joshua (3years 7months) has started to show some great imaginative play.

I’ve realised after hearing him and asking if he needs me when he shouts back, “I’m not talking to you Mummy!”

It’s been so lovely to see and I can’t help thinking that if he was to start school this September, when he’ll just be 4, whether that will be nurtured or lost. Oscar still happily plays imaginatively and independently now at nearly 6.

A snapshot into our life 30.1.18

January 31st, 2018

I thought I’d write a quick list of all the things we did yesterday… we had a day at home waiting for an Amazon delivery. Most days we go out so whenever we have a whole day at home, I have to be prepared to pop out at any minute if I feel the kids need it- sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t.

Morning

  • face painting dragons; Oscar did his own, I did Joshua’s
  • dressing up
  • making a rocket on our beds to go to the moon and looking at the story whatever next
  • drawing
  • looking at their glow in the dark boots and tops
  • imaginative play with teddies and transformers

Afternoon

  • garden play
  • collecting bugs, climbing and pruning
  • magnetic play; finding out things that are magnetic around the house
  • reading eggs on the computer
  • Splatoon on the Nintendo Switch, watching the television
  • building with sticklebricks and Lego

Evening

  • Joshua set the table for dinner
  • catch and hide and seek
  • dancing to music

National curriculum subjects covered at the least: literacy, art, PE, science (biology and physics), music, home economics.

Oscar’s questioning!

July 30th, 2017

Oscar has had some fab questions these past few months. I really enjoy seeing the children learning and thinking about things. Here are a few…

What if there wasn’t any colour? Can animals poo when they want? What are the clouds made of? Does it hurt when you die?

And here’s Oscar as a ballerina.

Joshua’s love of clothes

July 30th, 2017

Joshua has just turned three and he is one cool kid- he seems to love clothes, hehe. A little bit of Mummy in there! I recently went to pick up a clothes order with some bits for the boys and Oscar’s just like ‘yeh, thanks’ looking at them briefly. Joshua is trying each bit on, ‘oh nice.’ Nannan also bought the big boys some new clothes for our holiday (thanks Nannan!) and Joshua loved trying each one on 😊 Here he is with a new coat and swimming trunks. I may potentially have a shopping partner! X

I love the retro wind up robot we got at the science museum today.

Logical leaps

August 12th, 2016

Tonight, Oscar was a it worried about robbers coming in the night to take his toys. We had a chat about it, including police, and jobs and how robbers rob because they can’t get a job… It all culminated in this set of logical leaps by Oscar.

“I want to be a policeman when I’m big, to tell the robbers what to do. They rob because they can’t get a job. Maybe I can tell them what job to get. Oh, except I don’t know much about that… But they could be a policeman! … No. That won’t work. If they’re all police, then there’ll be no robbers. An then what will the police do?”

“Oh, what do the police do when there’s no robbers?”

“I don’t know. We haven’t got to that level yet, have we, Daddy”

“Hmm. Maybe you can think about it a bit more. But now it’s time to go to sleep!”

Russell’s April 2016

April 29th, 2016

I haven’t written a blog/posted photos in quite a while so thought I’d do a little overview…

April already wow wee .. Just trying to organise my 30th birthday party and starting to become a bit panicked because we’re heading towards May! We’ve had plenty of scarlet fever, coughs, colds and chicken pox so far this year and our biggest decision/prayer point at the moment is whether to home school Oscar for a couple of years!? To be decided…

Oscar’s adventures recently

  • still loving climbing and gymnastic activities.
  • improving lots on his computer games and iPad (although that’s limited by mummy to an hour a day unless we’re on a long car journey/need it as our back up.)
  • getting changed by himself and often getting ready by the door before Mummy and Daddy!
  • chatting lots and asking lots of why questions-We both love seeing how he is learning and working things out.

Joshua’s adventures recently

  • becoming cheeky and funny. He’s understanding different social clues, e.g. That if he does something funny, we laugh and he repeats.
  • loves climbing, running and playing with balls still.
  • starting to become independent with his play i.e having his own stories and what seems like more purpose to his actions (although children have purpose from babies.)
  • putting 2/3 words together to make a sentence and asking ‘what’s that?!’ lots.

Disneyland 2015

November 17th, 2015

We all went to Disneyland Paris for my birthday. Nan-Nan and Aunty Sarah joined us, and Oscar especially loved playing lego with Nan-Nan!

We got on lots of rides, and everyone did a great job of queuing.

We had an extra special breakfast, with Mickey Mouse, Tigger, and friends dropping in to say “Hi”, and play with Oscar’s toys. Read the rest of this entry »

Fish food!

November 17th, 2015

This is Joshua’s favourite game at the moment: he goes in the cupboard to get the fish food to feed the fish, but if it’s not time to feed them yet, then instead he takes the food out and puts it back in to the box. Repeat.

He smells like fish 🐟🐠
